Tokyo Olympics: Nigeria’s D’Tigers Suffer Another Defeat

D’Tigers power forward, Chimezie Metu, scored an impressive 22 points His efforts were not good enough to stop Nigeria from recording another defeat in the men’s basketball event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

They lost 71-80 to Italy in the final group B stage at the Saitama Super Arena.

This defeat brings back Italy to the Olympic quarter-finals and accredits them for making their fifth consecutive Olympics appearance.

Italy began the game well, winning the first quarter 29-17 points. Their Coach Mike Brown re-strategised and caused a renewed return to accomplishing the second and third quarters.

Nigeria had a 63-56 lead after the third quarter before things deviated to the wrong side for the D’Tigers in the fourth quarter.
