Pedri extends his contract with FC Barcelona until 2026

Pedri, a midfielder from Spain, has extended his contract with FC Barcelona until 2026.

The 18-year-previous old’s contract had less than a year left on it, however, the club had the option to extend it for another two seasons.

Nonetheless, they have decided to go ahead and sign him to totally new terms, tying the brilliant midfielder to the Catalans for an even longer period of time.

“FC Barcelona and the footballer Pedro ‘Pedri’ Gonzalez has reached an agreement to extend his contract until June 30, 2026,” according to a statement from the club.

A one-billion-euro (1.15-billion-dollar) termination clause is in place.”
Pedri has had a meteoric rise since joining Barcelona from Las Palmas last year, quickly establishing himself as a vital player after being recruited for the Blaugrana’s B squad.

After impressing Ronald Koeman in his first pre-season, he was promoted to the senior team.
Last season, Pedri appeared in 37 Premier League games for Koeman, second only to Frenkie de Jong in terms of appearances for the Catalan side.

Because of Pedri’s agile stature and passing skill, many parallels have been made between him and Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta.

The adolescent playmaker has also proven his worth on the international stage, excelling for Spain at Euro 2020 and winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Pedri became the second European player under the age of 18 to start five matches in a major competition at Euro 2020.

In his last-16 match against Croatia, he became the European Championship’s youngest player to ever start a knockout game.

Barca will be looking for more now that they have secured one of their main assets.

This will be in negotiating new long-term contracts with players like Ansu Fati, Gavi, and Ronald Araujo, as they look to the future.
