Man United handed double injury setback ahead of Liverpool clash

Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United’s interim manager, has announced that both Fred and Scott McTominay will miss Tuesday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.

Following Saturday’s thrilling FA Cup semi-final triumph over Manchester City, the Reds will welcome their Manchester rivals to Anfield next week when they return to league play. United also beat relegation-threatened Norwich City 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

On 52 minutes, Norwich City pulled level at 2-2, but Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a hat-trick late in the game to keep his side’s top-four chances alive.

Rangnick had already stated that defender Luke Shaw would be out for the remainder of the season, but after the draw with Norwich, he issued another update on the midfield duo. On Saturday, they were both absent.

He now expects them to miss Tuesday’s game against Liverpool at Anfield, and he also acknowledged that Raphael Varane’s fitness is also questionable, and he, too, is a doubt. United will be out for vengeance after losing 5-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s side earlier this season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a similar outcome against Manchester United in order to stay up with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings. With only a point separating the two clubs, last weekend’s 2-2 draw at the Etihad has kept the championship chase very much alive.

Following the FA Cup victory against City, the Merseyside club’s quadruple chances remain alive, and they also have a Champions League semi-final against Villarreal to look forward to.
