I have no reason to leave Bayern -Lewandowski

As Bayern Munich prepares for Friday’s away encounter against Greuther Fuerth, Robert Lewandowski has indicated that he may end his career there.

On Tuesday, Lewandowski was named Europe’s “Golden Shoe” winner as the highest scorer in European football after setting a Bundesliga record with 41 goals in 29 games last season.

With seven goals in five league games this season, the Poland front is now equal top-scorer in the German Bundesliga with Dortmund star attacker Erling Braut Haaland.

Lewandowski, 33, is under contract with Bayern until June 2023, and despite being linked with a move to Real Madrid in the past, he told reporters that he “doesn’t need to establish me in another league.”

“In the Champions League, I can compete with the best from other leagues. I’m completely focused on Bayern Munich — I don’t think about anything else but my team,” he said.

When Lewandowski brought his newly won Golden Shoe prize to training on Wednesday, his Bayern teammates lined up for photographs with the trophy.

Bayern Munich has scored 38 goals in their first eight games of the season in all competitions, and more are anticipated at Fuerth on Friday.

Fuerth has only earned one point from their first five Bundesliga games since gaining promotion last season, a home draw against Bielefeld.

Defending champions Bayern Munich begin as clear favourites but will have to wait on the fitness of Serge Gnabry, who was absent with flu on Wednesday, as well as attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala and reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who suffered ankle and knee injuries after colliding in training earlier this week.

Lewandowski was not the only Bayern Munich player to get an honour this week, as club captain Manuel Neuer was honoured with the Bavarian Order of Merit on Wednesday for his contributions to the state of Bavaria.

During the event, Neuer stated that his objective is to win the World Cup again and repeat Germany’s victory in Brazil in 2014. “That is something on my to-do list.”
