Facebook-Instagram-WhatsApp crash second time in 2021

On Monday, two Facebook-owned services, WhatsApp and Instagram, went down, leaving three billion internet users unhappy and unable to communicate.

The social tools, including Facebook’s own Messenger service, were first reported to be unavailable on Monday at 04:25pm.

Users who access the social networks owned by Silicon Valley tycoon Mark Zuckerberg are greeted with error notices.
“We’re aware that some individuals are having problems with WhatsApp at the moment,” stated @WhatsApp on Twitter.

We’re working hard to restore normalcy and will provide an update as soon as possible.“Many thanks for your understanding!”
“We are aware that some users are having difficulty accessing our applications and products,” said @Facebook. We are working hard to restore normalcy as soon as possible, and we regret for any inconvenience.”

Also on Twitter, @InstagramComms stated, “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a rough time right now, and you may be having problems utilizing them.” Please bear with us; we’re working on it! #instagramdown.”

The Facebook-owned applications, which have about three billion users globally, report intermittent disruptions in March 2021 and July 2020, which frequently trigger a flood of comments on other social networks.

Since the Federal Government of Nigeria suspended the microblogging site Twitter in June 2021, Nigerians have depended primarily on Facebook-owned sites for social connections, although a few others continue to tweet while utilizing Virtual Private Networks to bypass the ban.

As of January 2021, Nigeria had around 33 million active social media users. According to Statista, WhatsApp is the most popular platform in the country, with over 90 million users.

Twitter is used by around 61.4 percent of Nigerian social media users, while Facebook is used by 86.2 percent, YouTube is used by 81.6 percent, Instagram is used by 73.1 percent, and Facebook Messenger is used by 67.2 percent.
