Two suspects have been detained by the Jigawa Police Department for allegedly swapping ATM cards and stealing N58,000.
The arrest was verified by SP Lawan Shiisu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, in a statement issued in Dutse on Thursday.
Bashir Haruna and Isah Adamu of Birninkudu and Gwaram towns, respectively, complained to the police that one of the suspects reportedly switched their ATM cards and took N50,000 and N8,000 from their respective accounts, according to Shiisu.
“On Oct. 6, at 2:30 p.m., the following people; Bashir Haruna of Birnin Kudu LGA and Isah Adamu of Gwaram LGA, jointly made a direct complaint that on the same day at around 1 a.m., they went to a bank in Dutse metropolis to withdraw money by ATM.”
The complainants claimed to have met one of the suspects, who are from Katsina State’s Jibiya LGA.
“They said the suspect approached them under the guise of assisting them, changed their ATM cards, and took N50,000 and N8,000 from their separate accounts,” Shiisu added.
Police investigators jumped into action after receiving the report, he claimed and apprehended the culprit.
When questioned, the suspect provided the identity of his accomplice, who lives in Limawa village in Dutse LGA, according to the spokesman.
The accomplice, he claims, was eventually tracked down and apprehended by the authorities.
Shiisu stated that the investigation into the matter was still ongoing and that the suspects will be prosecuted in court once the inquiry was completed.
